PRESS RELEASE: PANGEA AFFIRMS OUR SOLIDARITY WITH THE IRANIAN PEOPLE AND CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE END TO U.S. AND ISRAELI WAR ON IRAN

As the U.S. and Israel continue to wage war on Iran, Pangea affirms our solidarity with the Iranian people, condemns this illegal war, and mourns the thousands of Iranian civilians killed over the past three weeks by U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. 

Pangea remains rooted in our commitments to freedom of movement, dignity, and self-determination for all people. We believe immigrant justice is inextricably tied to justice for all communities under occupation, under siege, under bombardment. We also believe that the freedom to move across borders is predicated upon the freedom from forced displacement from one’s homeland. 

We hold the Islamic Republic of Iran responsible for its decades of brutal repression of its own people and underscore that these abuses do not justify the current war on Iran. Instead we honor the internal movements for change within Iran, which have been resisting and organizing for decades despite systemic repression from the Iranian regime. By fulfilling the prophecies of hardliners within the Islamic Republic, this war will undermine internal Iranian-led movements for freedom and justice, the only true path for social and political change within Iran.

The war on Iran will not bring about regime change or degradation of Iran’s nuclear stockpile. Instead, it will come at the expense of the most vulnerable people in Iran. This war threatens to create a refugee crisis of catastrophic proportions, for a country of 90+ million people, and will lead to more instability across a region already destabilized by decades of U.S. intervention and impunity. 

This assault on Iranians cannot be separated from the ongoing Israeli genocide and occupation of Palestine, nor from Israeli bombings across Lebanon that have displaced a million people. Neither is it separate from unbridled U.S. interventionism in the Western hemisphere. In this season of Nowruz, Pangea renews our hope and commitment for freedom and safety for all oppressed people around the world.
